The Yin and Yang principle

The basics of this principle are:

The objects in the Universe is divided into 2 categories – Yin and Yang.

Yin and Yang are not only opposite in nature, they are indispensable from each other. The balance of the two opposites is not stable. Yin and Yang have a seesaw relationship. When one increases, the opposite decreases. The nature of Yin may be described by the essence of water cold, dark, moving downward and nature of Yang by the essence of fire-warm, bright, moving upward. Yin is slow and calm; Yang is fast and excitable. Yin is female and Yang is male. Yin is material and Yang is ideal.

Everything in the universe is either Yin or Yang. At times they are in harmony, at times they are in a struggle between themselves. When one changes, the other changes simultaneously in the opposite way. When Yin becomes shorter, Yang becomes longer. When one becomes strong, the other becomes weak.

Mountain, the Sun, Day, Summer, Strength are Yang. Bottom of the Sea, the moon, night, winter, weakness are Yin. A man’s right side is Yin and left side is Yang and woman’s right side is Yang and the left side is Yin. The upper part of the body is Yang and the lower is Yin. The back is Yang and the front is Yin.

Even our internal organs are divided into Yin and Yang organs. The Liver, Heart, Spleen, Lungs, Kidney, and Brain (Pericardium) belong to Yin organs and the GallBladder, Small Intestine, Stomach, Large Intestine, Bladder, and the Spinal Cord (Triple Warmer) belong to the Yang organs. The Yin and Yang organs establish pairs belonging to the same category.

Six pairs of organs are Liver and GallBladder, Heart and Small Intestines, Pericardium and Triple Warmer, Spleen and Stomach, Lung and Large Intestines, Kidney and Bladder.

A deficiency or excess in a Yin or Yang organ may lead to a disease. This can be corrected by activating certain acupoints, which are selected by pulse diagnosis.
